The Newaygo United Methodist Church is a member of the Kids Hope USA family. Kids Hope USA is a one-to-one mentoring program for children beginning in the first grade and continuing through the fifth grade. Children are matched with trained volunteer mentors. These Christians are a consistent, positive presence in the life of a special child as they meet at the school for one hour each week during the entire school year. The main focus is to build a loving relationship and academics are secondary. A behind-the-scenes prayer partner is also matched with each mentor-child relationship. The children, mentors and prayer partners are all blessed by this experience.
LOVE INC
LOVE INC - Newaygo County is a resource center and emergency aid program dedicated to helping people in need by providing goods and services through area church and community resources--Helping People Help People. Newaygo UMC folks volunteer at LOVE INC on Fridays which allows the retail store to stay open from 9am - 4pm. Church members are also encouraged to donate clean used household goods, clothing, furniture and appliances which are then given or sold to persons in need.
LOVE INC FOOD PANTRY
Together with other area churches we support a food pantry for the persons of the Newaygo and Grant area. Through donations of money and nonperishable food items, we are able to help families with an immediate need for assistance with food. The pantry is located at Love INC and is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Frideay from 10am - 2pm and Tuesday from 10am - 2pm and 5pm - 7pm.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY - NEWAYGO COUNTY
Habitat for Humanity of Newaygo County was incorporated in May 1991 and is an ecumenical community organization. The mission of Habitat for Humanity of Newaygo County is to “work in partnership with all God’s people, to provide families in need an opportunity to live and thrive in decent and affordable housing.” Through volunteers and noisy offerings our congregation supports Habitat for Humanity Newaygo County with our time, skills and money.
CROP WALK
Church World Service sponsors the Crop Walk which raises awareness and funds to fight hunger around the block and around the world. Newaygo UMC joins with area churches each fall to help raise money for the hungry.
